Because this is one of those essential (absolutely essential) skills going forward, knowing how to work with desktop agents like OpenAI’s Codex, and Claude Cowork or Claude Code.
I’m gonna walk everyone through the basics of how to download and install the desktop agents, how to hook all your things to have the agents help you with daily tasks, basic computer safety when working with agents (who are very smart! but sometimes make mistakes!), and how to build skills so your agents can do repeated tasks the same way every time.
I use AI agents daily. I could not currently run my business without them. They update and help run my Shopify, help me plan and write newsletters and put them directly into my newsletter provider, help me with business planning, with writing, with marketing, with managing my finances and business strategies. Help me with research and ads and they manage my Meta comments for me so I don’t have to look except once or twice a week.
Desktop agents don’t just give you information, they help you do things. They are able to work directly in my files, and work with databases I’ve set up in the cloud, to oversee and help manage every aspect of my business. They’re also able to take over your computer and work directly inside apps doing tasks so you don’t have to. I’ve had Astra, OpenAI’s best agent right now, editing videos for me in the desktop Davinci app all week—Astra can just do it for me.
It’s truly like having superpowers—things that used to take me hours, like making Shopify products, can often just take minutes. And agents can go off and work on their own while you’re doing other things. They can synthesize large swaths of documents and information. They can build you whole apps and systems so you don’t have to pay for extra subscriptions. There is so much you can do, and knowing the basics is how to start!
