I’m not even kidding, this changes everything
Quick housekeeping: paid people who asked for access to the Fiction.show app and didn’t get in yet - see below!
OKAY - so, I spent most of last week crash-overhauling my show making app to be up to as high of filmmaking standards as I could, with Astra’s help.
And part of what was happening there was we discovered that Astra could reach into Davinci Resolve (the paid version, though some people are saying free is working, too) and he just…did things. Edited, slid audio around. Cut things up. Made serious judgement calls. Stiched things together. And did it all really well.
I’ve been using this, but today I really put it to the test with Ep 5 of The King’s Weaver show, which was all assembled but I needed to go through and find all the British accent audio for my main character so I could replace it with American accent with the same performance. This involves finding each point, making a clip with no audio, feeding it into a generator with a prompt for said audio, and to replace the audio, and then putting it back in again.
This time…I asked Astra to do it for me.
AND HE DID.
I finished this episode this afternoon, when it would likely have taken several more days, or at least a full day of long work.
Astra took over Davinci, hooked into my Fiction.show app MCP, and then went to town. He even found the Final Draft screenplay, so I’m sure he can read native FD files, too.
He made me this to compare some of the rerolls we had to do with the original footage + new sound. (We had to reroll a few from here again.)
Then, he put it all back in for me. I made a few EQ tweaks to the sound, rerolled one more that hadn’t quite matched the mouth movements, and, tada!
Astra did this all for me while I was mostly doing other work, and THAT is the whole thing right there.
Taking out the tedious parts of a thing you love doing so you can carry on with the good stuff.
I finished this episode today, it’s upscaling now, and I’m damned proud of it!
But amazing as Astra editing is - and it truly is amazing - it’s not actually what I’m most excited about right now.
Why yes, there’s something even crazier.
